Hi Cake Lovers – I’m Deb! Self-taught baker, decorator and all-round sweets connoisseur.

My love of baking started in high school alongside my Mum, where we would make her favourite recipes together and bake for friends and family, for special occasions or just because. Over the years we’ve whipped up hundreds of cakes, cupcakes and cookies together in the kitchen – it was my unofficial apprenticeship and after years of teaching myself everything there is to know about buttercreams, meringues  and how to bake a perfectly moist cake, I turned my hobby into a business and opened Couture Cupcakes, a boutique cupcake bakery in Bardon, Brisbane, in 2008. (sold in 2013)

Since then, I continued to bake for birthdays and weddings and have pop ups around Brisbane, including Jan Powers Farmers Markets in New Farm. In 2016 my husband Cos and I opened Ristorante la Familgia, an Italian Restaurant in Woolloongabba, Brisbane.

 

 

The cake recipes that I share with you are my own, and are inspired by all things sweet and savoury that I love.

Fast Forward to today and I’m excited about this little space on the internet where I can help everyday people just like you make beautiful cakes for their loved ones or even start your own cake business.

Cake By Deb is a space where I share my recipes and go-to baking tips, alongside the products I love to use in the kitchen and my very own products too (you can shop the Cake By Deb collection here). One of my favourite things about owning Couture Cupcakes was seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they bit into one of my cupcakes, and I want to help other people experience this joy too.
